Building and maintaining rapport goes well beyond Step 2 of the WZ method. In order to effectively build rapport with an individual, the interviewer needs to be aware of how and (more importantly) why people warm up to one another in the first place. Leveraging an empathetic approach from the introduction all the way through the conclusion of the conversation will differentiate between a good conversation and a great one.
